To call overseas, dial the access code of the international telephone company that you wish to use. Then, dial the country code and phone number. These services can be accessed with no registration. The JET diary contains a list of country codes. A bill will be sent to your home address, which can be paid at your local convenience store. The most widely used international long-distance dialling companies are:
- KDD 001
- ITJ 0041
- IDC 0061

| CALL-BACK SERVICES |
At the Tokyo Orientation, many JET's receive information on call-back services. The prices can be significantly cheaper for calling North America, South America and Europe. The 24 hour flat-rate prices of these companies are competitive, and quality may differ. It is recommended to research several companies before choosing in order to find the best price and situation for you. Check for the following differences:
- No sign-up fee
- No monthly minimum
- Payment options (credit card, bank transfer, pre-payment, cash billing)
- No charge for unanswered calls
- Can call toll-free numbers in North America

In addition to advertisments in magazines, an abundance of call-back services are advertised on the internet (a search on YAHOO! alone produced 41 such companies! Click here to see that listing.). Also, as can be seen above, many call-back services provide information about their services on the web, and so this can be a good place to do additional research on any company whose services you are considering using.
As there are so many call-back services available, should you decide you would like to sign up for one, the best thing you can do for yourself, besides shopping around, is ask current JET's from your home country what service they use and if they are pleased with the quality and rates. |
